More about Douglas Stinson

Photography is my passion and I have pursued it through many technological changes, starting with B&W film and an Argus C3 range-finder camera and progressing to my current favorite, a Canon 5D Mark II. Digital photography has been a godsend to me as I love manipulating images in Photoshop. I am particularly drawn to the photographic exploration of light as a subject, the relationship between form, function and design and the discovery of hidden beauty in transitional forms.

I’m originally from “The granite town of the granite state” (Milford, New Hampshire, USA), and received a BA degree from New College, an experimental liberal arts institution, in Sarasota FL. I continued my education at the University of Illinois, Champaign-Urbana where I received a Ph.D. in physics. I also study at the San Francisco Art Institute.

After receiving my Ph.D., I worked as a researcher and manager in the fields of data storage, telecommunications, and medical devices for companies such as Kodak, Hewlett-Packard and American Medical Systems.

In addition to photography, I also consult for large and small businesses and non-profits in the areas of New Product Development, Project Management and Business Process Improvement

Pursuing another passion, I was appointed to my local community’s Environmental Conservation Board, becoming its chairman. In this capacity, and as newsletter editor of a non-profit promoting hiking trails, iI spoke and published on land-use planning and natural history.
